Mitsubishi is preparing to unveil an all-new 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander crossover SUV, one of the most popular vehicles from their entire line up. The current Outlander was a mid-cycle update and it obviously has hard time keeping up with the competition, mostly because of the outdated design of the exterior and the bland interior. The third generation of this popular crossover moves further away from its predecessors in terms of performance and it is a car more oriented toward families in the city, than the outdoors.
The biggest change of the all-new 2016 Outlander is on the outside. While the Japanese manufacturer will not change the chassis and the platform, the new Outlander will have lots of design changes, making it more aggressive and modern, like its biggest competitors. When you compare the new Mitsubishi Outlander with its predecessor, first thing you will notice is that the front has a new lower intake, looking like a gaping open mouth (which has recently become a trend among car manufacturers). Furthermore, the Outlander has more chrome accents than any of its predecessors, which shows that this crossover is really aimed at city driving and not so much for offroad. Since the platform and the chassis are the same, the Mitsubishi Outlander 2016 looks the same on the side and it has similar dimensions like its predecessor. Outlander was unveiled in red color, which makes the taillights blend in and mask with the metal. Maximum 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander towing capacity is 1,500 pounds.
Mitsubishi Outlander 2016 Interior, redesign
The interior of the new Mitsubishi Outlander mid-size SUV is also completely redesigned and it is very different than the interior of the current model. Unlike before, the new dashboard has design with lots of curves and it really looks elegant and stylish. The whole dashboard is slightly tilted toward the driver, which is not always the case when it comes to big crossovers. In the center of the dashboard there is a big touch screen display used for control of the infotainment system and satellite navigation. The interesting thing about the interior of the SUV is that, although it is not a big crossover, it still has three rows of seats, which is ideal for big families. The base Mitsubishi Outlander ES is not going to have touch screen display (it will have a regular display) and Bluetooth connectivity.
2016 Mitsubishi Outlander horsepower, Engine
The Japanese manufacturer is going to offer the new Mitsubishi Outlander 2016 with two different engines – the first engine is the one that is going to be in the base models the 2.4l 4-cylinder engine that should produce around 165 horsepower and 162 lb-ft of torque. This engine will have 40 MPG combined consumption and all to thanks to electric mode. The second engine is the one that is going to be offered with the GT trim level of the Outlander 3.0l V6 engine that produces 225 horsepower and 215 lb-ft of torque. Furthermore, the base Mitsubishi Outlander 2016 will come with CVT transmission, while the GT version is going to have six speed automatic transmission.
2016 Mitsubishi Outlander Release date and Price
The 2016 Outlander should go on sale in the fall of 2015. The price of the base price should be around $23,000.
