14 years after the premium brand ended the production of the nameplate for the third time in its history, Lincolns iconic flagship sedan, the new Continental concept, is going to make a comeback next year. The Lincoln unveiled the 2015 Continental Concept at the New York Auto Show, and the revival is definitely officially confirmed and not yet again just a rumor. So the Lincoln fans can get ready to give a warm welcome back to the iconic Continental and wish it a long and prosperous fourth generation in the Luxury Limousine class.
When it comes to the Lincoln Continental 2016 exterior, except for a few features that might be too expensive for series reproduction, the new model is expected to remain true to the concept’s design. The shape of the limousine should mirror the concept’s appearance front to rear, and also hold on to the newly designed front grille, which now consists of a raised Lincoln badge and a polished Lincoln-star-mesh. On the other hand, the new headlights will probably not make it to production, while the fancy pop-out door handles might make it, just to make the new continental stand out of the crowd. A concept feature that we hope Lincoln will keep, is the chrome strip on the side skirts and front and back aprons, feature that reminds of the 1060s Continentals.
Lincoln Continental 2016 Interior
As far as the interior of the 2016 Lincoln Continental is concerned, it should include the front and back, 30-way adjustable seats. The tablet-supporting tray that deploys from the center console and the smart glass tinting sunroof can also be seen on the modern-day luxury cars as well, so that means that we can expect them to find their way into the production car. On the other hand, the champagne holding compartment might be fitted in the range-topping models or even a long-wheelbase version, developed for the Chinese market, but other than that, everything you see in the Lincoln Continental town car is probably going to become a part of the production version.
Engine, 2016 Lincoln Continental 0-60
The 2016 Lincoln Continental V-8 engine lovers were probably disappointed to hear that the Continental Concept comes with a V-6 engine. Actually Lincoln has dropped 8-cylinder engines altogether with the redesigned 2015 Navigator SUV, and the brand is more likely to add a 4-cylinder EcoBoost engine in the lineup with the 3.0 l V-6 showcased in the Lincoln concept car. From 0-60 mph it will go for 6 seconds (Est.) with top speed of 155 mph.
When speaking about the new Lincoln Continental 2015 3.0 l EcoBoost, all what Lincoln said about it was “it is an all-new engine” so there are no output figures, but the predictions are that the company is aiming for at least 350 hp. That means that the new Continental would come less powerful than most of its competitors, but that could also make it a segment leader as far as the fuel economy goes, especially if it’s paired with a 9 or 10-speed automatic transmission. Furthermore, the Lincoln Drive Control system with 3 driving modes and the Adaptive Steering showcased on the concept car, will probably be found also in the production car.
2016 Lincoln Continental Price and Release Date
For now, it is way too early to talk about the price, but judging by the amount of luxury and new technology fitted in the concept version, the production Continental will probably become the second-most expensive new Lincoln after the 2015 Navigator, which comes with a price of around $62000. 2016 Lincoln Continental release date will be probably at start of 2016 or end of 2015 year.
