The QX70 has been around since 2013 but the car is actually pretty much identical to the FX model released back in 2009. Infiniti worked a lot on this medium size luxury crossover in order to make it just as good as all of its European competitors and we have to say that they actually did it, especially with the way it drives. A new model has been rumored for quite some time and not too long ago many people thought that the upcoming 2016 Infiniti QX70 was going to be an all new car but it seems that this will not be the case which is a bit unfortunate considering it is currently the oldest car in its class.
New 2016 QX70 Engine
Just like with the 2013 model, the 2016 Infiniti QX70 comes equipped with only a single engine choice for the US market which is unfortunate. The base is the same old 3.7 liter naturally aspirated V6 which can offer 330 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque. While it may not seem that impressive, the engine feels better than most others in this power range and it can rev up quite high offering a really nice power delivery. The previous 5 liter V8 is no longer available for the 2016 model year because it was just too inefficient for it to be competitive anymore. The European market on the other hand also gets a 3 liter turbo-diesel V6 which can offer up to 240 horsepower and 406 lb-ft of torque. While it is not able to tow all that much due to the unibody construction of the car, the diesel offers great performance with a much lower fuel consumption of nearly 28 MPG on average. Both of them come with a 7 speed dual-clutch automatic and both of them can be had either with rear or all wheel drive.
Infiniti QX70 2016 Exterior
The exterior of the 2016 model has not been released to the public just yet despite the fact the brochure has been online for quite some time. However, we do expect some minor changes which should make the car a better choice than the current model. In fact, we hope that the 2016 Infiniti QX70 will finally receive a long wheelbase version which could add rear captain’s chairs and a lot of luxury features which would make it the only car in its class to offer that. On top of that, the headlights and the tail lights should get new light clusters while the exhaust might be refined to offer a nicer sound.
2016 Infiniti QX70 Interior
Inside the cabin on the other hand the car will remain pretty much identical to the current model. The only visual difference will be a new steering wheel. However, there are going to be quite a few safety features added such as a lane-keep assist, intelligent brake assist which will make the car a lot easier to use inside a city. A new infotainment and navigation system is also going to be added which will offer weather and traffic updates, a must for any premium car.
Release date and Price of 2016 Infiniti QX70
A brochure of the new model has been leaked online a few months ago and it has even been released to the public by Infiniti not too long ago. The 2016 Infiniti QX70 is nothing more than just a mild update which is likely going to be sold on the market for at least another year until the new model based on a Mercedes platform will be launched. The 2016 model should be available for sale starting with the winter of 2015 and its price will likely be similar to that of the current model. The base trim level should start near the $47,000 mark while a fully equipped version of the car should not get past $70,000 which would still be quite good considering the price of its competitors.
