Many people were desperate when Ford decided to disrupt the production of Bronco. However, its successor is the Expedition, mid-size SUV introduced in the 90s. Since then, three generations have been released and we can expect the fourth generation in two years. 2016 Ford Expedition is a member of the third generation which was released back in 2007, and thus it won’t be much different than its predecessor. The 2015 model got some improvements, but nothing huge.
The latest model comes with four doors (as all members of the third generation) and with slightly improved performances. It has been the best Expedition so far but we expect a lot more of the next generation. However, before we write anything about the future models it would be wise to introduce the 2016 Ford Expedition. Perhaps it won’t leave you speechless but it is definitely worth checking.
2016 Ford Expedition Engine and Specs
Even though the 2016 Ford Expedition is going to have various trim levels (Platinum, Limited, XLT< XLT EL and at least four more) there is going to be one powertrain for all of them. The 3.5-liter six-cylinder EcoBoost is quite enough and you won’t ask for another one. This engine can deliver 420 lb-ft of torque and 365 horsepower which pretty much similar to its predecessor. The V6 delivers the goods regardless of the purpose.
Every model has a rear-wheel drive while AWD is optional. The six-speed automatic gearbox is the only available option. We don’t have data about the fuel consumption but in our assumption those figures should be improved. Last year’s model was rated 16 mpg and 22 mpg in a city and on highway respectively, with a rear-wheel drive. On the other hand, four-wheel drive had slightly worse figures. All in all, these figures are around average in the class and should be satisfying.
Interior and Exterior of 2016 Ford Expedition
Generally, the design will remain unchanged. Headlights have been reshaped while everything else at front has stayed pretty much the same. Grille, fenders and bumpers are likely to be transformed with the 2017 model. This mid-size SUV has a boxy design which some people would not find attractive.
Maybe it is not as appealing as some other SUVs, but it offers plenty of room for every passenger. There are eight seats inside the cabin with a possibility to remove the last row. Cabin has more improvements than the exterior. MyFord Infotainment system is a standard feature, but it comes with the latest updates this time. Eight-inch touch panel is placed on the dashboard and you can easily connect a flash drive or a smartphone via Bluetooth connection. These would be some of the standard features but have in mind that cabin design depends mostly on the trim level.
Ford Expedition 2016 Release date and price
According to the several sources we won’t see new 2016 Ford Expedition on the road until the next summer. On the other hand it may be presented earlier at some car shows. Costs will approximately be around $42,000. Some of you may find this too much but there are some SUVs which are even more expensive than the Expedition.
