If you find crossover SUVs too big for your taste you may consider getting new Ford Edge. Edge is one of the smallest and the newest crossovers. It debuted 8 years ago but has become one of the favorable SUVs on the US market. Edge reached the second generation and 2016 model will continue where the last one stopped. It comes with all standard features and everything that its predecessor offered, but enhanced and improved. Upgrades are not revolutionary but still are significant. 2016 Ford Edge is the medium-size crossover but it resembles a hatchback a little bit. In fact, it takes the best from both worlds. Some of you may find Explorer, Flex or Escape the best SUV manufactured by Ford. Edge surely can stand side by side with all of them, despite it has shorter history. What is so stunning about the new Edge, you can read in this article.
2016 Ford Edge Engine
Previous model had three different engine options and new one won’t differ when it comes to engine units. The base unit will remain the same old 2.0 liter four-cylinder EcoBoost. This engine is the base engine for all trim levels and can deliver 245 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque. As a matter of fact, it is more powerful than the F-150’s base engine unit. The second option is the 3.5 liter six-cylinder with a slightly more horsepower and a little less lb-ft. It can produce 280 HP and 250 lb-ft of torque. The final option is the 2.7l EcoBoost six-cylinder which has an output of 315 HP and 360 pound-feet of torque. All three engines have the different fuel economy. The base engine is of course the best in terms of fuel consumption since it is rated to 20 mpg in a city and 28 mpg on highway. We must admit fuel efficiency is not the advantage of the 2016 Ford Edge and Ford must invest additional effort in order to make it more competent.
Interior and Exterior of 2016 Ford Edge
Perhaps, new Edge is not high-flyer in terms of fuel efficiency but it has one of the best aerodynamics among crossover SUV’s. It is based on C/D platform developed by Ford but the exterior will remain unchanged comparing to its predecessor. However, 2016 Ford Edge has many new lines on front fascia, windscreen and roof which give it modern outlook. It will come with five doors in total and grille will be completely new. One of the biggest differences between new model and its predecessor is probably the space inside the cabin. New model will provide more space for the passengers. Also cargo space will be bigger than before. It is still uncertain but we expect that front seats will have heating system.
2016 Edge Release date and Price
Many experts expect the 2016 Ford Edge will hit the market this autumn. Price range is quite huge due to many different trim levels. The least expensive version will cost approximately $28,000 while for the most expensive one you will need to spend $10,000 more. Price is quite reasonable and it is in range of the main competitors.
