It would be no exaggeration to say that 2013 and 2014 editions of the Chevrolet Volt have witnessed a rather sedate level of sales, contributed in part by its price tag. The only news this car made was when Chevrolet decided to slash its prices for the 2014 model, and incorporation of an improved battery pack for the 2015 model. Thankfully, it appears that the 2016 Chevrolet Volt iteration is set to make a decent flutter. Let us explore why.
We start with the 2016 Chevrolet Volt exterior revamp, for this is the aspect people notice first up. Perhaps revamp is not the best word in this instance, since the new design looks carefully evolved from its previous iteration. In the front, you will notice Chevy’s traditional cleaved grille, except that now it sports a contemporary approach to the same. In its press release, the company talks about wind swept sand dunes being the inspiration behind this design, and it’s hard not to see that the Chevrolet Volt 2016 has bettered its aerodynamic lines.
At the back, Chevy has not-so-quietly moved away from the futuristic, and chunky, tail lamps in original iterations towards a more flowing, aerodynamic and willowy appearance. Back at the front again, you will notice the LED lamps giving a distinctly comprehensive presence to the car.
Chevy has brought about so many changes inside, people are never going to agree which one stands out among them. In our estimate, the provision of a seat for the fifth passenger is clearly the biggest of them all. Unfortunately, the design philosophy animating the rear seat, combined with a lack of head rest in the middle, means that things get crowded and uncomfortable. Looking beyond the fifth passenger fiasco, you will immediately notice how comprehensively Chevrolet Volt 2016 has dialled down the interiors compared to original version. Things are more streamlined, more traditional – especially with the touch sensitive panel having disappeared, and clearly designed to target a wider cross section of potential customers.
Battery and Engine
All round good news await on the battery and engine front. A more powerful lithium batter at 18.4 kWh promises a range of 50 miles. Once your battery has run dry, you can drive smugly, secure in the knowledge that the new 2016 Chevrolet Volt will offer 41 miles per gallon, instead of erstwhile 37 miles. The new one and half liter, four cylinder power plant offers a smoother and quieter drive, with more power at your command. Among other improvements, you will notice an improved braking apparatus. Changes made to the new battery, combined with substantial weight reduction, means that the car feels lighter and nimbler. The new Volt promises to deliver 149 horsepower and 294 nm of torque. The top speed is pegged at 98 miles while the Volt promises to bolt from 0 to 60 mph in 8.4 seconds.
2016 Chevrolet Volt Price and Release Date
Rumor surrounding the new Volt suggests that a lot of changes have been brought about to bring about a substantial reduction in price. It is expected that the basic model of 2016 Chevrolet Volt will come tagged at a shade lower than 30.000$. The car will be unveiled next January.
