Originally produced by the Daewoo Motors, the Chevrolet Spark was once known as the Daewoo Matiz. It was one of the pioneers of modern city cars and was available as a five door hatch. Daewoo Matiz was firstly introduced back in 1998 and it was meant to replace the Daewoo Tico. It was made from 1998 until 2005, but after the General Motors acquired Daewoo Motors, the Matiz brand was soon abandoned and Spark took the primate. The first generation Spark (second including Matiz) was introduced in 2005 and manufactured until 2009, while the second generation Spark was made from 2009 until 2015. Today, we are looking at the newest member of the Spark family,2016 Chevrolet Spark, dubbed as the “Next Spark”. The new model was unveiled at the 2015 Seoul Motor Show in April.
2016 Chevrolet Spark Exterior and Interior
The redesigned elements of the new 2016 Chevrolet Spark are visible at the first glance. At the front, the car now features a completely redesigned set of headlights. Compared to the previous generation, the headlights are now smaller, slightly rectangular shaped, unlike the long, sharp leaf shaped ones on the older model. The car now has a slightly more aggressive look than before, thanks to the redesigned front grille, that still features the split in two parts, but it is now stretching all the way to the bottom of the front bumper, which is pretty radical move. Fog lights are placed in a restyled box at each side of the bumper. Interior wise, the new Spark will feature minimalist look and feel. Central LCD touchscreen takes the mos space on the central console, with few most basic physical switches and buttons on the bottom of the console and on the steering wheel, for the sake of easier accessibility.
Chevrolet Spark 2016 Engine
2016 Chevrolet Spark will, along with many other above mentioned updates, feature a new engine as well. The new engine will be slightly more powerful, yet less fuel consuming, as well. It will be a 1.4 liter inline 4 cylinder Eco Tech, that will replace the old 1.2 liter and it will feature around 98 horsepower, which is a good 15 horses boost, compared to the previous engine. The gearbox that will accompany the new engine will be a 5 speed manual transmission system and it will be a default option. Additionally, buyers may opt for the CVT automatic transmission system, for slightly higher cost of the entire vehicle. As far as the performance is concerned, the new engine will be capable of pushing the car from 0 to 62 in around 10 seconds flat and can achieve a maximum top speed of 110 mph. Although not a speed king, the performance of the new 2016 Chevrolet Spark are quite decent. It is good to mention that it will feature front wheel drive as a solely option.
Price and release date of 2016 Chevrolet Spark
2016 Chevrolet Spark had its official public debut at the 2015 New York Auto Show and is scheduled for sales sometime in the fourth quarter of 2015. Oddly enough, the prices for the new model are still a mystery, but the speculations state that the prices will not steer far from the price of the current model, currently being sold at $12,300 for the base model.
