The year 2016 is bringing some serious changes for the Chevrolet Silverado, despite the fact that most of the major ones are not focused on the exterior. Having said that, the new Silverado does come with a few more aces up its sleeve that will enable it to stay competitive in the modern markets. If you were expecting a new grille and an updated dashboard, you are in for a surprise: the new 2016 Chevrolet Silverado HD features a myriad of new technologies that will truly usher a new era for this truck, from the Digital Steering Assist to the new, state-of-the-are safety measures, and even fifth-wheel prep package.
Exterior of 2016 Chevrolet Silverado HD
As far as exterior design goes, not much has changed – the choice of colors is greater (Siren Red, Red Hot and Brute Red Metallic), but the overall appearance is significantly altered by the additional technologies. The new goose-neck and fifth-wheel towing prep package will bring you an advanced liner, meaning you’ll never have to worry about regular wear and tear and moderate stress. The sheer number of special editions is remarkable: WT, LT, and LTZ can be combined with Midnight, Custom and Z71 package to bring additional skid plates, shock absorbents, tow hooks and a new rear differential.
2016 Chevrolet Silverado HD Interior
The new 2016 Chevrolet Silverado HD is not going to take any chances with the interior, as the previous models offered a great deal in terms of indoor materials and superior ergonomics. The configuration remains the same, along with the roof and indoor space are design to accommodate cargo that is not fit for the cargo bed in the rear. This requires lots of space, and Silverado has it in spades. Other updates feature infotainment software. The standard MyLink is now compatible with Apple and Android technology – CarPlay and Auto.
This means you’ll be able to plug in almost any smartphone and upload a matching operating system onto the screen. It also refers calling, texting and all the other features that are normally operated by phones can now be accessed through the infotainment screen instead. Everything about the Silverado will also extend to the HD versions as well, although there might be some glitches with the Android Auto.
Chevrolet Silverado HD 2016 Engine
Under the hood of 2016 Chevrolet Silverado HD, there is a tried and true 6.0-liter V-8, although the good old 6.6-liter Duramax turbo diesel will also make an appearance, but that is about it. Both versions come with a six-speed automatic transmission. However, the Duramax version can be paired up with the Allison 1000 heavy-duty transmission instead. Performance-wise, the 6.0-liter gasoline V-8 is starting to show its age, with modest 360 horsepower (5,400 rpm) and 380 pound-feet of torque. The 6.6-liter Duramax is slightly stronger and stands at 397 horsepower and 765 pound-feet of torque. These numbers seemed a lot more impressive a few years ago.
Release Date of 2016 Silverado HD
