Introduction The new 2015 Corvette Stingray incorporates the word Stingray which was last used in the Corvette C3. As promised, it will have greatly upgraded features to enhance its sports car facade and performance. Discussed below is a review of the 2015 Stingray features and performance.
Exterior and Interior
In addition to the previous model, the 2015 Corvette Stingray will have 2 more exterior colors; that is, the Daytona Sunrise Orange Metallic and the Shark Grey Metallic. It will also come with an all-new Carbon Fiber package which incorporates the carbon flash on mirrors, license plate holder, rear spoiler, badge package and dual racing stripes. The wheels come in a black machined or silver-painted aluminium 5 spoke with measurements of 18 inches by 8.5 inches front and 19 inches by 10 inches rear. The total wheel base will occupy 106.7 inches. Exterior measurements specifications are; 177 inches for length, 48.6 inches for height and 73.9 inches for width with a front / rear weight distribution of 50/50 %. Other features are; a removable roof panel, Xenon HID headlights and power-adjustable mirrors.
The interior has been upgraded as well and will have a lot of new features which include; 4G Wi-Fi hotspot for communications, video recorder and performance data apps. An upgraded Valet mode will now allow HD video and audio recordings of the performance to be taken. Other features include; two 8 inch infotainment and driver screens, Bluetooth connectivity, Chevrolet MyLink infotainment system, Keyless access with push button start, 8 way power seat adjustment, and Genuine Corvette Accessory. Customize options and features are catered for and include the tour theme, sport theme, and track theme.
New Stingray Engine
The mechanical upgrades are a new 8-speed automatic transmission form the previous 6-speed automatic transmission, with paddle shifters. This gives it a bit of an edge in terms of fuel consumption and performance. The performance package gives it an extra 5 HP to 460 pound-feet of torque. This means that the 2015 Corvette Stingray can go from 0 to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds. There will be 2 engine options that come with the 2015 Corvette Stingray; that’s the Standard 6.2 liter V8 cylinders engine with 455 horsepower and 465 pound-feet torque. The second option is a supercharged version, the 2015 Corvette Z06 which comes with 650 horsepower and 650 pound-feet torque.
The fuel consumption will be dependent on whether the transmission is in manual or automatic mode. The consumption for 8-speed automatic mode is 16mpg for city, 29 mpg for highway and 20 mpg combined. The 7-speed manual mode consumption is 17 mpg for city and 28-30 mpg for highway. Other drive-train specifications include; direct injection fuel delivery, cast aluminium block and cylinder head material, compression ratio of 11:5:1 and overhead valve with 2 valves per cylinder.
2015 Corvette Stingray Price and Release Date
The price of 2015 Corvette Stingray and release dates are yet to be officially confirmed but experts put the base price between $54,820 and $65,680. The release date will be in early 2015.
