The 2014 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 is a homage made by Chevrolet to the Z28 Camaro Convertible sold initially in the late ’60s. The current car is based on the 2015 Camaro ZL1 with a few modifications and with another purpose in mind. While the ZL1 is a car made for the street, the Z28 Convertible will be a car aimed at the track. It will have stiffer suspension, improved engine and brakes and other improvements that will discuss. Here is the review of 2015 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 Convertible
2015 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 Convertible – Engine and Mechanics
The base price for the future Z28 will be somewhere around the 80 thousand dollars mark. Sure, that’s almost 20 thousand more than the 580 horsepower ZL1, but the 2015 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 Convertible engine promises to deliver outstanding performance, both on the race track and on the normal roads. The beast that will live under its hood will be a 7 liter aspirated V8 engine, straight from the Corvette. The engine is quite light and thanks to its revving capabilities, it is a great unit for racing. The gearbox is a close-ratio 6 speed manual. Great for the track, not so great for a daily driven car.
The Suspension also got redesigned. It now has better balance, stiffer shocks and springs and, of course, better brakes. The latter are made by Brembo, and are specially designed for the car. They are carbon-ceramic with bigger calipers and rotors than on the normal ZL1. Also, thanks to the material they’re made of, these brakes are much lighter and much more durable than the normal steel brakes. Economy has never been the problem with such a car. Ir can still get a decent mileage, thanks to a better use of materials. You can expect somewhere around the 22 MPG mark on the highway and as low as 13 MPG while in the city.
New Camaro Z28 Convertible Interior and Exterior
The 2015 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 Convertible interior is pretty similar to that found on the normal Camaro with a few additions. You now get manually adjustable Recaro front seats. The rear seats are now almost 30% lighter thanks to higher density foam. The overall weight of the car dropped with more than 200 pounds when comparing it to the normal Camaro . Sure, this is great if you race your car everyday, but considering Chevrolet won’t even offer AC as standard, just to save weight. Also, options as HID lights and fog light are not available.
The conclusion? Well, we finally have a Chevrolet that is worth competing with the BMW M4 and the other European sport cars. It has great handling, the engine is a beast in its own right and the 2015 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 Convertibl price is just right for such a car. The only drawback is the fact that you won’t get as much equipment as in the European competitors.
