2014 Chevrolet Silverado – Engine and Mechanics
This is one of the most efficient pickups today. According to GM, its EcoTec3 engines do not only offer better fuel efficiency that Ford’s Ecoboost engines, but also has a higher power output hence towing capacity.
The 2014 Chevrolet Silverado engine comes with a choice of three engines. Each of these offers a considerable degree of fuel efficiency, and enough power to help you get the work done. The smallest engine is the 4.3L V6 EcoTec3 engine. This engine is capable of delivering 285Horsepower and 305lbs per ft of torque, a very impressive performance given its capacity.
The bigger 5.3L has 8 cylinders in V –arrangement and produces 355 Horsepower. This engine also has the best towing capacity for its class. Finally, the biggest engine is the 6.2L V8, which is the most powerful V8 ever offered in a Chevrolet light-duty pickup. It produces 420 horsepower and up to 460 lb per ft of torque. With this engine, you should be able to tow up to 12,000lbs.
Thanks to technologies like, Variable Valve Timing, Direct Injection and Active Fuel Management, Chevrolet has been able to make engines capable of very high fuel efficiency and power. Qualities that until now, could only be found in engines with bigger displacement. The Direct injection system provides the correct measure of pressurized fuel into each cylinder for optimum power and fuel efficiency.
While the Variable Valve Timing system controls the Valves to ensure optimum combustion at all engine speeds. The Active Fuel management system automatically switches off the extra cylinders letting the V8 and V6 engines run on four cylinders under light loads and thus reduces fuel consumption.
